We offer one on one tuition for all types of tailoring skills including pattern designs. This is particularly suitable for students studying fashion design e.g. at TAFE , who need hands on practical experience from an expert.  Our founder, Sirintra Mayoe has over 20 years experience in all aspects of sewing and dress design and can work with individuals or groups. 

Training can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual and can be from one day to a comprehensive training programme covering many weeks. The student can use our range of modern sewing machines to ensure they perfect the art of both fashion design and actual dressmaking. 

The following areas can be covered in any training.  

Sewing Basics

Begin by familiarizing yourself with essential sewing tools, including a sewing machine, fabric scissors, pins, measuring tape, and an iron. Understanding how to operate a sewing machine, thread it correctly, and adjust stitch settings is fundamental. Practice stitching basic seams such as straight, zigzag, and overlock to ensure clean and secure finishes

Pattern Design

Learning pattern design allows you to customize garments to fit your unique measurements and style preferences. Start by studying garment construction principles, including dart manipulation, grainlines, and ease allowances. Experiment with drafting basic patterns for garments like skirts, tops, and simple dresses using pattern drafting tools such as rulers, curves, and pattern paper.

Fabric Selection

Understanding different types of fabric and their properties is crucial for successful sewing and pattern design. Learn to identify fabric weights, drape, and stretch to choose appropriate fabrics for your projects.
